Hiring a freelance trekking Guide in Nepal

27 Nov 2019 Santosh Gauli

Everest base camp trek with Local Guide

Hiring a freelance trekking guide in Nepal is quite popular now because of decreeing the economy in the world because it is relatively cheaper than trekking through an international travel agency. Also, they are flexible, helpful, stay on duty all the time, care more, and are safe, this is why if you have a local freelance guide for your trek or tour in Nepal you will enjoy more and gain much knowledge from the country.

My name is Santosh Gauli and I have been working as a professional freelance/independent mountain guide for 16 years and about 1 year I worked as a porter. Next, I work with an established trekking agency as a guide for a few years then I decided to work myself to improve my career in this field quicker than working with the agency. When I was working with the big travel agency, I did not have an expected salary this is why I decided to work myself in a freelance/independent way, which is much better.

I had also a few months of training to be a guide from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Government of Nepal, Which gave me an Authorized-A grade license to work as an experienced freelance/independent guide in Nepal

I used to speak English, Hindi, Local Languages, and a little French but I have many friends who speak another extra language if needed for you and we work together as a freelance trekking guide team.

Furthermore, My hometown is located in the north-west of Kathmandu where hundreds of trekkers visit every day, thus I grew up in a remote village and I have many experiences already Trekking, and hiking in the remote areas of Nepal, which means I can handle my clients very safely wherever you trek or hike all around Nepal, it is my promise to you all.

Next, I was also in university while I was working as a guide, only I could not attend my every day to my class because I had to go to the mountain as a guide with my clients but with my laborious work and self-study, I finished my Master degree in Travel-tourism and Demography. It is really helpful to work now with my qualifications and I really hope in the coming days I will make even better work.

As an experienced mountain guide, I used to organize the most popular trekking routes such as the Everest base camp trek, Annapurna circuit trek, Annapurna base camp, Everest short trek, Gokyo valley trek, Manaslu trek, peak climbing, jungle safari tour, and many other less touristy area treks in Nepal agreeing with your desire and interest.

Trekking and touring activities need to be safe, easy, comfortable, and trusty hence, if you are a solo trekker, female trekker, student trekker, adventure trekker, or climber for all we have all different qualities of experienced guides on your request and budget.

There are so much authorized paperwork, permits, and TIMS card that need to be done before you start your trek but no worries on your arrival day in Nepal, I will introduce you to my best guide and at the same time give you all permit and paper which you need to show while trekking in the mountain.

Lastly, what I can promise you are quality service. Reasonable prices and safe travel are my first priority, thus if you are looking for an experienced freelance trekking guide in Nepal you are heartily welcome to my country.

There are many trekking and travel agencies all around Nepal, but they all have different ways to serve their client. My previous long experiences say your guide for your Nepal trip has to be fulfilled with the following qualifications and nature.

The most common questions from visitors in Nepal is about hiring a freelance guide budget, and the price of hiring a guide in Nepal, well there are many prices for guide depending on their qualification and experience but on average the cost of hiring a freelance trekking guide is about $30 a day- it is called salary base trekking (service trekking) and the next is all-inclusive package trekking service which is highly recommended. In this type of trekking service, you have no pressure to organize your transport, guide, porter, permit, all paperwork, food, and tea house accommodation in the mountain all services will be provided by your Guide operator and he will be your guide too. However, package trekking in Nepal is highly recommended.

How to hire a trekking Guide in Nepal?

There are a few steps you can follow to hire a trekking guide in Nepal:

Determine your trekking route:

Before you start looking for a guide, it’s important to decide on your trekking route. This will help you find a guide who is familiar with the area and can provide valuable information and assistance during your trek.

Research and compare different guide agencies:

Nepal has many trekking agencies and individual guides that offer their services. It’s a good idea to research and compare different options to find a reputable and experienced guide. You can ask for recommendations from friends or other travelers, or look for reviews online.

Consider your needs and preferences:

When selecting a guide, consider your specific needs and preferences. Do you need a guide who speaks a particular language? Do you have any special requirements or preferences, such as a particular pace or type of accommodation? Make sure to communicate these with the guide or agency you choose.

Negotiate the terms and cost:

Once you’ve found a guide or agency that you feel comfortable with, it’s important to negotiate the terms and cost of the trek. This should include the length of the trek, the services included (such as meals and accommodation), and any additional costs (such as permits or transportation).

Confirm the details and make the necessary arrangements:

Once you’ve agreed to the terms and cost, confirm the details with the guide or agency and make any necessary arrangements, such as booking flights and accommodation. It’s also a good idea to get a written agreement outlining the terms of the trek.

Keep in mind that it’s important to choose a reputable and experienced guide to ensure a safe and enjoyable trek. Be sure to ask for references and check the guide’s credentials before committing to a trek.
