The ‘Tamang Heritage Trail’ is a newly opened off the beaten track trekking route, in a beautiful area steeped in Tibetan tradition. This is an excellent introduction to trekking in Nepal as it offers some of the most beautiful scenery in Nepal and is rich in Tamang culture. The trail is located between Langtang and the Ganesh Himal and is a relatively gentle circuit trek through terraced fields, peaceful valleys and picturesque villages. The area is inhabited by the Tamang people who are some of the warmest and friendliest in Nepal. Most of the Tamang people originate from Tibet as this area was on the salt and mountain goat trading route
This trek is within easy reach of Kathmandu and affords majestic views of the Langtang Himal and the Tibetan Plateau. On route you can visit a local monastery, soak in the natural hot springs in ‘Tatopani’ and enjoy the cultural interaction with the Tamang people.
The trek begins in Syabrubesi (a 7-8 hour bus ride from Kathmandu) and then climbs to the beautiful village of Gatlang. You will pass many Buddhist chortens and mani walls and receive a warm welcome by the locals in their distinct colourful costumes, These villages are unspoilt and virtually untouched by culture and the trail offers you a real wilderness experience. The houses have a unique architecture and ornamental woodcarvings distinguishing them from other settlements in Nepal.
You travel on to Tatopani (which literally means ‘hot water’). Here you soak in natural hot springs which the locals believe have healing properties. Then you ascend to NagthaIi Danda (3300m) which was the meditation place for monks and priests this is the highest pass of the area, it lies in a high open grassland and offers panoramic views of snow covered Langtang Lirung, Kerung, Ganesh Himal and Sanjen Ranges. You then descend down to Thuman, a heavily Tibetan influenced Tamang village. If you are lucky, you might come across large troops of Nepal Gray Langur Monkeys. The ancient monasteries and houses adorned with rich wood engravings here are an unforgettable experience. Here you can chose whether to extend your trek into the Langtang Valley or finish your trek near the Nepal-Tibet border.

The trip to Nepal was a great experience. I organized the tour (10 days) with Santosh Gauli . I was really happy for his organization of all the pro ... Read MoreView All Testimonials
