Monsoon trekking

Overview

The annual monsoon runs from June to the end of August but moonsson trekking is still comfert to make sor short 2 up to 7 days.Despite monsoon trekking  is still a good time to visit Nepal. There are areas in the North of Nepal that have little or no rainfall at this time (Upper Mustang and Dolpo). These are restricted areas, for conservation reasons and so the permits are a little more expensive but the amazing scenery and culture of these areas makes them worthy of being called some of the most beautiful areas in Nepal. Upper Mustang was until relatively recently a separate kingdom and its desert like landscape and strong Tibetan buddhist culture provides a landscape completely different to that you find in other areas in Nepal. This is the land of monastries, chortens, nomadic goat herders and butter tea.

For people on a budget the Annapurna and Langtang regions also offer some fantastic long and short treks. Please see Annapurna Circuit, Ghorepani - Poonhill treks and Langtang treks.

The Annapurna region has many types of ethic group (Mager, Poon, Gurung, Bramin and Chhetri) and few of them they speak their own language and they have different festivals to other groups. Here you can see a wide variation of landscapes and cross the world's second highest pass 'Thorong La'. In August there is the Janaipurnima festival where pilgrims trek to the sacred of village of Muktinath in the Annapurna region and Goseikunda lake in the Langtang region. There are many festivities at this time and in Muktinath the local horsemen race in the streets. Muktinath is one of themost sacred areain the world for both buddhists and hindus. Here they worship together with the natural gas fires and temples with 108 taps that is you shower each one is said to wash away your sin.

A shorter trek closer to Pokhara is to Ghorepani. The Ghandruk trekking route is one of the best trekking routes in good weather as within a few days walking you get see many mountains and localations. From Ghorepani you can leave in the early hours of the morning to trek to Poonhill. This is the name of the view point at 3210m to watch the sunrise over Dhaulagiri (7th highest mountain in the world) and Annapurna South (also over 8000m). After Ghorepani you can see many waterfalls, mountain villages, local farming, rhododendron forest as well as enjoying the tranquil environment .

I would say that Annapurna and Langtang region are a wonderful destination for student groups because there are so many different things to see and it's not that expensive to visit and besides that there is a great opportunity for them to learn about the area's culture, religions, traditions and way of life.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The trip to Nepal was a great experience.  I organized the tour (10 days) with Santosh Gauli . Very good flexibility on his part to change the program to suit our needs (both of time and things to see). Santosh welcomed us at the airport and we have always followed the best. I was really happy for his organization of all the pro ... Read More
