The Disabled New Life Centre and Khagendra Centre offer an opportunity to help disabled adults and children in Kathmandu. There is no welfare system in Nepal and so life for the disabled community is very hard. Disability is given so little support here in Nepal and for the already poverty stricken families it is virtually impossible for them to look after disabled children, youths, adults or even the main bread winner for the family if he is involved in an accident.
Both centres have been accepting volunteers for several years now. I have found the experience to be life altering and affirming for both the volunteers and the Nepalese they serve, and the volunteers remaining close to the centres after their time there.
Here is a blog about volunteering in Khagendra New Life Centre, a place that once you visit will stay in your heart forever:http://www.livefreedietravelling.com/blog/garys-blog/our-choice-of-cause-khagendra-new-life-disabled-centre/
see their website: You can volunteer exclusively here or split your time between Khagendra and the Disacled New Life Centre (DNC). At the DNC the children are in school until 3pm Sunday to Friday so helping with afternoon activities and homework would be the most rewarding activities. There is the option of lodging here. The volunteer will be rewarded by learning a lot about themselves as well as the lives of others in a developing country where language and religion, outlook and habits are all very different. Most volunteers leave with their life’s compass pointing clearly to a new direction in their lives.
Nepal is beautiful, diverse and exotic and the people unforgettable. Your time here will be spent safely surrounded by a community grateful for your presence. Before, during or after your volunteering time why not explore this beautiful country? Please see the trekking and activities pages to make this a trip that you will never forget.

The trip to Nepal was a great experience. I organized the tour (10 days) with Santosh Gauli . Very good flexibility on his part to change the program to suit our needs (both of time and things to see). Santosh welcomed us at the airport and we have always followed the best.
