The Manaslu round trekking is a relatively new trek in the repertoire of most Nepali trekking guides. It was only released to people outside Nepal in 1991 and follows an old salt trading trek along the Budhi Gandaki River and the Budi Gandaki gorge with its most fantastic views. The trek leads you through the pristine wilderness with a view from Mount Lho to Bhimtang like you have not seen any other. If you want to know what heaven on earth means, this is the place to come and to experience. Mount Manaslu (8156m) was first conquered by Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu, on May 9, 1956, as part of a Japanese expedition.
One of the not to miss attractions of this trek is the Samdo village. It is the highest village in the Budhi Gandaki valley and is inhabited by Bhotias. From this village, you have an excellent view of the valley and Pang Phuchi village; with the Tibetan border in its far.
The Manaslu round trekking is not just attractive because of its spectacular views. It is a must-go destination for any nature lover. In an almost untouched area, you can experience 110 species of bird’s including the Golden Eagle, Eurasian Griffon, Himalayan Griffon, Blood, Impeyan, Kalij and Koklass Pheasants, Himalayan and Tibetan Snow Cocks and the Crimson Horned Pheasan.
The Manaslu round trekking is also very diverse in its flora. For example, it inhibits nineteen different types of forest, most of it, however, constitutes of the Rhododendron, and Himalayan Blue Pine. A site trip to the Manaslu Base Camp is an experience of its own kind. From there you can easily get to the Pungyen Monastery with its breathtaking view to Himalchuli (7331m). A glacier you need to see to believe.
The Manaslu Trek is a circuit and at one point meets up with the Annapurna circuit trek via Bhimthang. However, this only happens after you have passed the Larkya-La Pass (52235m) and then descend through Dharapani. From the Larya pass you can enjoy a stunning view of Cheo Himal, Himlung Himal and Kang Guru and as a special eye candy, every now and then you will get a glimpse of the massive Annapurna itself.
