General information about Langtang

The Langtang trek area offers remote trekking just south of the Tibetan border. The Tamang people of this area are incredibly welcoming and will make your stay in this area one that you will never forget. Not only are the views of the Himalaya amazing but there is a wide variety of fauna and flora: fauna, pine, maple, fir, blue pine, hemlock, red panda, wild dog, muntjac, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan Thar Ghoral, Thar monkey as well as langur monkeys.

The Tamang people originate mainly from Tibet and so you can experience an ancient, colorful culture. There are many Tibetan monasteries and primitive Tibetan styles of settlement to see on your journey and of course the animal after which the valley is named, the yak (Lang is Tibetan for yak).

Langtang trek is suitable for all as it has many options in terms of difficulty in trails. Langtang Lirung (7246m) dominates the valley to the north; Gang Chhenpo (6388m) and Naya Kanga Ri (5846m) lie to the south, and Dorje Lakpa (6966m) protects the East end of the Valley. A visit to the Langtang valley offers an opportunity to explore villages, to climb small peaks and to visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. It is also possible to return to Kathmandu via the holy lakes of Gosainkunda at 4300m, or you can make a short trek from Dhunche to Gosainkunda. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims visit the lakes during a full moon festival in August. These lakes are also sacred to Buddhists.

Why we like this trek:

  • It is much calm and peaceful area trek,
  • the local life and tea house are more natural,
  • Really deep valley view and insane close view of Langtang mountains,
  • if luck favors you, you might see red panda( rare animals I the universe)
  • local bus drive with local people.
  • you can experience the life and traditions of Tamang people.

Annapurna Base Camp Trekking

The trip to Nepal was a great experience.  I organized the tour (10 days) with Santosh Gauli . Very good flexibility on his part to change the program to suit our needs (both of time and things to see). Santosh welcomed us at the airport and we have always followed the best. I was really happy for his organization of all the pro ... Read More
